AT 6 Texan Crash Pictures

  • Andrew Hartpence, with Deep Six Salvage, sent the Sun these pictures of a crew recovering plane wreckage from the Gulf after a World War II-era plane crashed near Topsail Hill State Park last week. The crash killed the pilot and his passenger. Hartpence and his crew contracted with Atlanta Air Salvage to remove the wreckage. Hartpence told The Sun “We got most of it as you see from the pictures on the dock. The wreckage was in 70 feet of water. It was 50 degrees down there and visibility was 0 to 1 feet. We think it was reduced so much because both parachutes had deployed on impact and they were fluttering around down there stirring up the bottom. I couldn't see my outstretch hand. There was a lot of twisted metal wreckage that we did not recover.” To read the full story on the wreck, see waltonsun.com
